Medical Community is Recognizing the Value of Eating Healthy!

I was thrilled to hear a highly prominent conventional medical doctor say to me in a meeting I had with him this week that a “raw, vegan diet is the way to go to cure obesity and diabetes.”

For me, that showed that the medical community is starting to become aware of the power of a nutrient rich diet.
It is, however, only the first step. For some people, a raw, vegan diet can actually be harmful, particularly during the winter.
I learned this the hard way: When I followed a raw, vegan diet for a year, my stomach was chronically distended. I consulted several times with mavens in the raw food community, but none of them offered a cure. They kept insisting I was following the diet improperly.
I did a certification from the Hippocrates Institute, one of the most revered “raw food” institutions, from which I learned that I was actually following the diet acceptably.
Why then, was it working for so many people, but not for me?

The answer came to me during my first Ayurvedic consult. Ayurveda is an ancient medical system that has been practiced in India for 5,000 years. In Sanskrit, ayur means life or living, and veda means knowledge, so Ayurveda is typically defined as the “knowledge of living” or the “science of longevity.”

Ayurveda has been making a significant headway into the US. What I respect most about it is the Ayurvedic practitioners take into consideration the individuality of every person and analyze the root of an illness. Conversely, conventional medical doctors focus on the illness and give a generic prescription plan.
During that first visit, I learned that (and I’m over-simplifying this for the sake of brevity) large boned people with slow metabolisms may do just fine following a raw, vegan diet. Conversely, this type of diet can actually be detrimental to smaller boned people with fast metabolisms, like me.
For my body type, I generally require heavier foods, particularly during the winter.
This is just one example why “one person’s food is another man’s poison.”
Cleansing has been a very powerful means to show me exactly what my body required to stay healthy and work optimally.
This is the goal of doing a fresh-pressed, organic juice Reboot: to get you in touch with your body’s needs so that you nourish it in the best way endemic to your body type.

Fresh-Pressed Organic Juice For Silky Hair, Strong Nails and Glowing Skin

All it takes is a little hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth. How easy is that!

I am very careful to use make up, face cleansers and skin creams made from chemical-free ingredients. When I read that just a dab of hydrogen peroxide can whiten teeth, I thought, “I’m so healthy, what can a small amount of a toxic product going to do to me?”

For 2 months, I rinsed with the tiniest amount of hydrogen peroxide. Sure enough, my teeth started to whiten, but so did my hair. In fact, it became so damaged that I had to cut 3 inches off.

At first I equated my damaged hair to stress. After all, it’s the beginning of the school year, a time of seasonal change, etc., but stress had never had such an impact on my hair.

A few days ago, I happened to be listening to an advertisement on the radio for a product that helps prevent grey hair by inhibiting the build up of hydrogen peroxide. I immediately started to research this and found that as hydrogen peroxide builds up, we go gray, according to a study at the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom.

As soon as I stopped using the hydrogen peroxide, my hair resumed back to normal.

This experience made me realize how sensitive our bodies are to toxic and synthetic substances, including make up, food, etc. We consume junk and then wonder why we get sick. We’ve stopped equating the power of nutrient rich foods to health!

I learned about the real power of organic plant foods many years ago when I got sick. The doctors were stumped how to treat my illness. With every medication they gave me, I became sicker. Fortunately, I was introduced to juice and within one week of drinking it several times a day, I was completely healed – and hooked!

I founded a company, JOOS, which is based ona culmination of the research I’ve conducted world-wide to develop the healthiest food/beverage you could possibly consume. Try it and see what I mean. At first it can be an acquired taste, but your body will start craving it.

I’d love to hear your comments how about how juicing has helped you!

Here’s Why Fresh Juice Must be Organic

The word is getting out about the multiple health benefits of fresh, unpasteurized juices, which is wonderful, BUT if it’s not organic, it can actually be poisonous. I actually know juice drinkers who have ended up in the hospital with high levels of toxicity.
The reason fresh juice is so powerfully healthy is because it’s filled with concentrated nutrients, but if it’s not organic, you’re actually consuming concentrated pesticides.
Some juice companies say that they use organic produce when possible and/or local produce. The fact is, if the company is located in a colder climate, like the Northeast, they’re obviously not able to find an abundance of local produce during the colder months.
JOOS is 100% guaranteed organic!
That’s why people fell so balanced, energetic, in-control and healthy when they consume it.

Optimize Your Cleanse by Eating Right

The number one reason I hear that people are afraid of cleanses is because they think they will starve. This is not the case!

I strongly believe that in 98% of the time when people do a raw juice cleanse, they should eat, even if it is only a handful of grains per day. The reason is that we want to pace our metabolism. While we want to give it a break, it still needs to do a little bit of work so that it doesn’t shut down and then have to be revved up again.

Time to debunk a couple raw juice cleanse myths:

Myth: “I just broke my raw juice cleanse because I’ve eaten the wrong foods.”

When I ask someone who tells me what they’ve eaten, they typically respond with a list of foods that are totally acceptable on the type of raw juice cleanse we promote at JOOS, such as Larabars, raw nuts, Mary’s Gone Crackers with hummus, brown rice vegetable sushi, corn tacos loaded with sautéed vegetables and tofu, a falafel sandwich with brown rice tortillas to name a few. Sometimes they’ve even gone out for a glass of red wine. Frankly, so what if ythey’ve snuck in a piece of chicken or a sip of coffee? Just make it the exception and go back to the cleanse the next day. There are so many foods that are acceptable and delicious on the cleanse. This is about experimenting with those foods and building a relationship with them.

Myth: “I only ate one meal and I’m starving.”

I just spoke with a woman who is doing a raw juice cleanse and did a very intense workout. She thought she could only have one meal and was feeling starving and deprived. Ideally, part of the cleanse is having one meal and unlimited fruits and vegetables throughout the day, but some people may need more. If you work out intensively and/or have a busy lifestyle, you may need a bowl of oatmeal in the morning or a Vega shake with a banana and almond milk afterwards.

The type of cleanse we promote at JOOS is NOT about starvation or deprivation; it is about learning mindfulness and how to pace yourself. If you are genuinely hungry, then you need to eat more. If you are not hungry, but eating out of habit or boredom, again your Lifestyle Coach can give you strategies how to deal with that.

I can assure you that a raw juice cleanse is not complicated, unless you allow it to be. In fact, once you get the hang of it, you may find that you will be able to follow the principles of it for months to follow. Sure you will probably fall off track. We all fall off track if we don’t practice anything regularly, such as exercise…and healthy eating habits. So the key is to plan ahead.

Remember, this isn’t about perfection, which is an illusion in our minds; it’s about learning how to incorporate sustainable healthy eating habits into our daily lives.

Are you feeling any of these symptoms?
• Diarrhea
• Flatulence
• Nausea
• Constipation
• Fatigue
• Iron Deficiency
• Depression
• Acne
• Fullness
• Food Allergies
• Arthritis
• Osteoporosis
• Asthma
• Autoimmune Disease

If you answered yes, there’s a good chance you have poor digestion, also known as indigestion.

There are several factors that could be causing it. Here are some:

• Eating a diet high in acidic foods (e.g., animal protein, gluten products, artificial sweeteners, processed foods, dairy)
• Not enough fiber
• Dehydration – not drinking enough water
• Eating too quickly
• Eating excessive amounts of food
• Stress mismanagement
• Not getting enough sleep
• Drinking too much alcohol
• Smoking

The links below from the University of Maryland Medical Center and by Dr. John Douillard give a more thorough overview of ingestion:

A major way to reverse indigestion is to eat a plant rich diet. The problem is that many of us do not like to eat vegetables. I spoke with someone the other day who said he ate “high quality steak and supplements.”

Supplements are not substitutes or replacements for foods!

JOOS is one of the best ways to enrich your body with the highest quality vegetables!

What are you waiting for to feel your absolute best? ORDER JOOS!

The most telling question of all: Do you feel like you’re deserving?

Kate Middleton was the pinnacle of poise and regalness at her wedding today, but from what we’ve seen of her over the years, this is not a surprise. To me, she acts like she is deserving of a happy and fulfilling life and I say this in the most positive way. Her figure is deserving of every superlative. She has a beautiful, warm, captivating smile. No wonder Prince William fell in love with a woman of pure beauty and grace!

As I write this, I wonder how many of us feel like we’re deserving of a life of ease with a beautiful figure and surrounded by a loving family?

I heard a trainer say that the clients who have the most success with weight loss are those who feel like they are deserving of it. Are you?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Day 1 to Healthy Body Reboot – JOOS Cleanse – well almost…at least I got one JOOS

I was so very much looking to starting my JOOS Cleanse today, but many other people had the same idea and one of them forgot to place their order last night so I ended up giving her my JOOS. At least there was one extra for me. After a long, fun, crazy vacation week, the first thing I wanted to get back on my busy schedule was my JOOS.

Despite being short one JOOS, it felt great to get back on the JOOS Cleanse schedule. For lunch, my meal with Trader Joe’s Rice and Bean chips with Masala Lentil Dip.

I met a friend at Cafe L’aroma at 15 Spencer Street, West Newton, for tea, my favorite: green cardamon tea mixed with cinnamon and hot apple cider. Just thinking about it, I wish I could have another. Will have to wait until tomorrow.

For dinner, now that I have six kids for the month of January, I made them a delicious tomato soup, sneaking in herbs that are so good for them like ashwagandha, turmeric, cardamon and ginger, mashed potatoes, brussel sprouts with a mustard butter sauce (although instead of butter, I used ghee) and Boca chicken patties. I had the brussel sprouts. Please let me know if you want recipes to these super easy to make meals.

I have to say that dinner time was hysterical tonight. Anyone would have loved to be a fly on the wall. There are two South Korean boys who came very late last night. They were so jet lagged today that they were literally walking into walls. They had never used a knife and fork so at dinner time, my kids had to display perfect table manners to show these boys how to eat properly. That was a joke in itself. The boys barely speak English. William, my 8-year-old, couldn’t figure out how someone couldn’t speak such an easy language. So glad he’s getting this exposure.

The boys are attending a Catholic school here and, of course, the first words my kids teach them is “oy vey.”

Tonight I am relaxing as I write with a healthy hot cocoa by JOOS, completely acceptable on the cleanse. It is made with special healing herbs and that stimulate the metabolism, relax you and give you more clarity of mind. I heat up almond milk, add the hot cocoa mix and some honey. When I’m not cleansing, I add ghee (clarified butter). Absolutely delicious and satiating. We’re starting to give it out as samples for anyone who wants to try it.

Looking forward to Day 2!

Looking for a preventative and cure for colds, flu? Look no further…

Many of you have asked what my recipe is for the honey, turmeric, ginger mixture that we (the children and I) take all winter to help prevent colds and flu. Here it is:

Fill an approximate 8 oz glass jar with local honey. It is very important that the honey is local, since this will help prevent allergies in the spring.

Mix in an approximate tablespoon of turmeric power and an approximate tsp of ginger powder. As my children become more accustomed to it, I gradually add more of these spices.

It is important to add the ginger with the turmeric because studies have found that turmeric assimilates in the human body when it is mixed with ginger or black pepper.

Feeling Irritable, tired, uptight and/or stressed? Could be because you’re not nourishing your body properly…

Do you feel irritable, tired, uptight or stressed? If you are, chances are that you’re not nourishing your body properly with breath and nutrients.

The purpose of breathing is to bring oxygen into our cells with the inhale and depose waste or carbon dioxide on the exhale. The problem is that most of us do not breathe properly.

Watch a baby breathe. Their belly expands fully on the inhale and contracts fully on the exhale. Do you do that? If not, you may be feeling any of those negative emotions I mentioned above.

Likewise with food, are you eating acidic and processed foods or highly alkaline foods the way our ancestors did? While some of the acidic foods may give you quick doses of energy, like coffee, ultimately we end us crashing if our bodies are not properly nourished.

The purpose of the JOOS Cleanse is to kick start sustainable healthy eating habits so that you will feel energetic, centered and focused. In the process, you will return to your ideal body weight.

The problem for many of us is that we’re looking for the quick fix because we’ve become accustomed to having everything at our finger tips. Well, easy come, easy go. You must be truly committed and patient about embarking upon this journey as a process to achieve the desired results. It is also about what Oprah says, “give more love” to yourself.

What are you waiting for? Call us today to embark on your journey to a healthier life.
